The Ahrntal (Valle Aurina) is a Paradise for Hikers and Nature Lovers

The apartment complex “Haus Sonne” in St. Johann (San Giovanni) is the ideal starting point for pleasant walks as well as challenging alpine climbs.

Experienced mountaineers can take on the “Almenrunde” (alp circuit) or the “Sunnsat Trail”, which take you from St. Johann (San Giovanni) or Luttach (Lutago) all the way to St. Peter (San Pietro). What makes this so special: There are frequent opportunities to descend in the valley and return to the starting point by bus. There is a bus stop in immediate vicinity to the apartment complex “Haus Sonne”.

Families with children can take the “Hexensteig” (Witches’ trail), which runs from the Platterhof near St. Johann (San Giovanni) up to the Bizat hut, hike through the forest or take the “Leonardi Trail” in St. Jakob (San Giacomo) and explore farm life step by step. The Klausberg near Steinhaus (Cadipietra) features a high rope course and a water park. The “Alpine Coaster” will take you down the Klausberg with breathtaking speed – it’s Italy’s longest summer toboggan run. The ecological swimming pond in Sand in Taufers (Campo Tures) and the Kneipp facilities in Weissenbach (Riobianco) offer a cool and refreshing respite. The neighboring Rein in Taufers (Riva di Tures) has three spectacular waterfalls, which are connected by a family-friendly trail through the forest.

During July and August, “Street Cuisine” takes place every Tuesday night in Sand in Taufers (Campo Tures) – enjoy delectable South Tyrolean specialties outdoors in a very special atmosphere.
A variety of museums offer insight to the culture and history of the Tauferer Ahrntal (Valle di Tures ed Aurina). Here, Castle Taufers, which overlooks the valley since the 13th century, is most notable. Today, it also provides children with the spooky backdrop for the “Witching Hour” program. In Prettau’s (Predoi’s) Mining Museum, where copper was mined for more than 500 years, the mine train will quickly take you deep into the mountain, where the pitmen once stoped the ore from the mountain. Since the air in the galleries is very pure, a climate tunnel was established in the Prettau’s (Predoi’s) mine, which brings great relief to people suffering from allergies and asthma.

Reinhold Messner, the legendary mountaineer, has set up two museums in Pustertal’s (Val Pusteria’s) principal town Bruneck (Brunico) which are well worth a visit – “Ripa” in Bruneck’s (Brunico’s) castle and “Corones” at the Kronplatz summit.
